Blog 1: Jon Madden - http://jonathanmen191f12s27.blogspot.com/2012/09/library-book.html
Jon Madden chose a book called Newspapers of the First
World War. He described how he was interested in what kind of stories the news covered in that time period. I have always had much interest in The World Wars, and think this was a notable book choice. In his summary, he described a news headline that went on to report that a Great Britain artillery shell set off a German gas cache, causing one of their trenches to be poisoned.
Blog 2: Yihao Sun - http://yihaosen191f12s27.blogspot.com/2012/09/1.html
The Best Of London is the name of the book chosen by Yihao Sun. She explains that she is interested in visiting London after she graduates. She also explains that the book describes hotels and restaurants in London, but most notably clubs. She elaborated that clubs in London are highly exclusive and this may be a bane to visitors. I think London would be a beautiful place to visit, but I hear it can be very expensive there.
Blog 3: Jonathon Gerry - http://jonathongen191f12s27.blogspot.com/2012/09/the-book-i-have-chose_24.html
The book chosen by Johnathon Gerry was Celtic Warfare 1595-1763. He choose this book because it relates to his Irish and Scottish roots. He talks about how history is important in explaining where we came from, and how we might learn from our mistakes. Of interest in his post is his discussion of how the Celts used defensive battle tactics and fought in ways that were unfamiliar to others. I would note that history is indeed important, and the analysis of warfare can tell us much about human endeavor.
Blog 4: Chancelvie Louzolo - http://nelleamouren191f12s27.blogspot.com/
Chancelvie Louzolo chose a book titled At The Eleventh Hour Reflections, Hopes and Anxieties at the closing of the Great War, 1918. She explained that war makes her sad and she had come from a country that was destroyed by civil war. She chose the book because she was interested in how The Great War closed. One of the main points of interest she discusses from the book is the government policies for food supply, pointing out that there is starvation during war. I think that considering the aftermath of wars and how they work out endings can be a very important subject in politics and the fate of countries.
Blog 5: Labib Rahman - http://lrahman666.blogspot.com/2012/09/book-discussions.html
The book chosen by Labib Rahman was Sexual Turning Points. This book stood out to him and he was interested in learning more about what it would discuss. He goes on to state that the book is intended for a popular consumption as opposed to professional reading. The book discusses development of emotional and sexual relationships among adults. He elaborates on one of the main points of the book, explaining that it focuses on women who lose their virginity at an early age, i.e. between 16 and 19. I think this book could be helpful in getting people to think about their relationships and better understand them.
